Old Crown Way

So it now has a new name. Where smoke houses once stood, where the Ropery could be seen, where the horses were stabled in the Old Pack Horse, where a medieval housewife got cross when she broke her cooking pot, where off -duty Romans  had a  glass or two and where neolithic man  got a view of the sea  , Life has been going on in this spot of OLD FILEY for over 2000 years. Welcome to our new neighbours. I hear the sound of children playing , see white vans unloading new carpets, see freshly lain turf in small back gardens, waterbutts to tick the eco box.

So welcome New Neighbours !

A home blessing for you

May you be blessed with
warmth in your home,
love in your heart,
peace in your soul
and joy in your life.

In the name of Jesus .Amen

Our turn now

Pete Gray does our side now, and using the reclaimed bricks I managed to get from the site. They have been sitting in Kiaora garden  since Mr Oakley brought them round last June. Pete and I wonder if they were made in the Filey Brickworks, at Seadale or behind Chapel Street. Pete wonders if his father ever worked on this same wall years ago.It is clear that it has been patched and rebuilt many many times.
York Archaeological Trust told me last year that the boundary line of our wall has been the same one for many hundreds of years, even since the Romans 1700 years ago.

The Site Office has gone.

The Beginning of the End

This week has seen the bright lights at night. When you have lived for 20 years with only the occasional car headlight shining into ones bedroom window from Garages on the other side of our wall anything brighter and constant is noticeable. The lights on each Front and Back door of the New Houses have been tested this week. The first night they flickered on and off in rotation, like Chaser lights in Dixons Window, but they have settled into a more stable routine. It takes quite a lot of getting used to.   We are preparing ourselves for the sounds of Happy Families now, so with most of Reynolds Street  occupied by empty homes for most of the year it is going to be treat to have real people living here in their Affordable Homes.
I am awaiting a viewing of  the Archaeological  report with anticipation now, and I also heard that Iron Age post holes etc had been found next to the Dentists .

Support

Essential supplies for the workers are to be found 5 mins away at the local butchers shop. We see all the Builders,Roofers and now the Sheffield Plasterers and Painters (staying at the Three Tuns)  marching past our sitting room window with sustenance on their minds. Every morning  they all have determined urgency in their step , as their stomachs remind their brains ;pies, pasties, pies, pasties, pies , pasties.

As for the Balamory look next door. I'm just glad I will be seeing blue and not pink from my kitchen window.

Working through all weathers

For the last 2 weeks of mirk and cold, the work just carried on . I was cold, the cat was cold, the plants finally gave in and died down , we had soup every day and still the work carried on.  I am very impressed.
